Godwin Insurance Agency was founded in 1953 by brothers Grover Godwin and Louis Godwin in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1970, the Godwin brothers hired Shirley Ray to be the agency’s policy typist. Little did they know then, she would later become one of the first female agency owners in the Carolinas, purchasing the agency she had worked so hard to grow over the prior 20 years. Together with her daughter Teresa Owens, who joined the agency in 1996, they lead a team of professional insurance agents, well-respected in the industry and the community for their knowledge and integrity.
In October of 2021, Godwin Insurance became part of an even larger team of agents, and now operates as a division of Correll Insurance Group. The name on the door remains Godwin Insurance Agency to honor the hard-earned legacy of trust with which it has long been associated in the Triad area. Together, we focus on providing clients with the appropriate insurance based on their expressed needs and budget.
